Elke is originally from Austria, where she completed her training in General Pediatric Surgery. During her training years she went for two years to the National Research Centre in Dublin, Ireland for a postdoctoral fellowship in basic research. Her field of interest was the pathogenesis of lung hypoplasia in the nitrofen model of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Prior to starting at the Hospital for Sick Children, she spent two years as a fellow at King’s College Hospital in London, UK. Since 2014, Elke has been working at Sickkids in the division of General and Thoracic Surgery: first in Research –setting up a mouse model for necrotizing enterocolitis, then as the Neonatal Surgical fellow and since July 2016 as the trauma fellow.
